Intramural Policies and Expectations Walker athletes and parents,
I am sending this letter home in order to better communicate information regarding Walker's after-school intramural sports program. Please read this letter thoroughly, sign the letter, and have your son/daughter return it to his/her respective coach. Walker Junior High is fortunate to have one of the only junior high sports programs in all of Orange County. We would like to further educate you on Walker's sport policies.
Hours and Dates
- Monday thru Friday : 2:35-4:00 p.m.
- No practice on school holidays and minimum days
- Every Thursday is a required Study Hall from 1:20-2:35. Students may not leave campus. (Leaving campus will constitute in a missed practice.)
Program
- 4 weeks of intramurals (competition between Walker students)
- School all-star teams selected (after intramurals)
- 2 weeks of all-star team practice
- 1 week of district tournament (competing against schools in district)
- Parents and students are welcomed to watch the district tournaments only (no parents or students allowed during the practices)
Sports offered
- Football, Girls' Volleyball, Boys' Tennis/
- Important Dates:
- Monday, September 14 – Intramurals begin
- Friday, October 16 – last day of intramurals
- October 19-30 - All-Star practice
- November 3 - First Round Game @ Dale
- November 4 - Elimination Game (TBA)
- November 5 - 2nd round game (TBA)
- November 6 - Championship (TBA)
Qualifications for making team
- Attendance, attitude, and ability all factor in
- Each student is allowed 3 excused absences (after 4th unexcused absence, student will not be permitted to attend intramurals nor be eligible to make all-star team)
Ride arrangements/ pick-up
- Parking lot supervision goes until 4:15 so all students need to be picked up by this time
- Students who walk home must leave campus by 4:15 p.m.
Tournament information (November 2- November 6)
- *Game times and locations will be provided to students during tournament week
*Teams that have road games usually return to school around 5:00 p.m. *You may call the front office for game times and locations
Playing time
- Playing time for our athletes is not guaranteed during tournament play.
- Playing time is a coach’s decision and it is possible that some may not play in the tournament games. We expect athletes and parents to be respectful of this policy.
Important
- The front office will not call coaches during practice to see if your child is at practice. It is up to the parent and child to establish a line of communication regarding this matter.
