Class Description Requirements
Band 1 Beginning Band is designed for students who have had no previous musical training on a band instrument. Students will be taught how to read music and play an instrument. None
Band 2 Intermediate band is for students who have had one or more years of band or musical training. Basic fundamentals are stressed, along with music preparation for performances. Band 1 and/or 1 or more years musical training.
Beginning Art This is a basic exploratory course offered for students who have little or no previous art training. Students are introduced to elements of art and principles of design through the application of several basic art media. Such materials as pencil, crayon, ink, paper, wood, and clay are used. None
Chorus 1 This course provides the students with instruction in basic musicianship and fundamental voice techniques. This is a performing group, and attendance at all rehearsals and performances will be required. None
Chorus 2 A greater amount of vocal independance and musicianship is expected. This is a performing group, and attendance at all rehearsals and performances will be required. Strong musical ability and interest.
Computer Skills 1 One semester of Computers where students will learn to touch-type and become familiar with computer usage. Keyboard and computer concepts are developed and reinforced through the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, multimedia, and Internet Applications.
2nd Semester Course: Spanish or Home Economics or Wood and Metal Shop

Conflict Resolution This course is designed to train students in active listening, decision making, and problem-solving skills. Students will use these skills to promote schools safety and discipline and provide peer-to-peer counseling. None
Home Economics This 1 semester course introduces students to foods and nutrition, consumer education, and sewing. Self-esteem and leadership skills will be emphasized.
2nd Semester Course: Spanish or Computer Skills or Wood and Metal Shop

Journalism Learn about newspapers and how to write for them. Leads, interviews, and different types of stories are studied. This is a writing course, but it may involve many production aspects of journalism. CAT 6 Total Language score of 70% or more.
Memory Book This class produces the school memory book. Students will learn graphic design, photography, desktop publishing, journalism, and digital photography for the preparation of the school memory book. CAT 6 Total Language score of 70% or more.
Spanish 1 This 1 semester course offers students an exciting introduction to the Spanish language and culture.
2nd Semester Course: Computer Skills 1 or Home Economics or Wood and Metal Shop

Wood and Metal Shop This 1 semester course explores various phases of industrial technology. Safety, hand tool, and machine use will be reviewed. The areas of wood, metal, and drafting are addressed.

3D Design This is a yearlong geginning studio art class that is mostly sculputure with some drawing and painting. Consumable fee: $10.00

Intermediate Home Economics This co-ed class will cover foods, nutrition, sewing, child development, and consumer education. Students will be able to prepare, cook, and eat lunch, dinner, and dessert foods. They also learn to sew and make craft projects. None
JROTC This course is designed to motiviate students in becoming effective school and community leaders. The course of study includes citizenship, communications, study of the American Constitution, first aid, health, and leadership skills training. None
