Progressive Discipline
Optimum learning cannot be achieved without a positive program of behavior control. By the end of of September, all parents/ guardians should receive a curriculum paper and individual teacher's assertive discipline plan which outlines classroom rules, consequences, and rewards. Please read these letters carefully and sign at the bottom to acknowledge your understanding of these policies. If you have any questions regarding your student's behavioral responsibilities, please call the indivdiual teacher or your student's assistant principal at: 220-4051. (Students A - K: Dr. Fried, Students L - Z: Mrs. Malotte)
DETENTIONS: May be assigned by adult staff for various reasons. One day’s notice will be given. The student is required to have the written detention notice signed by the parent or guardian and present it at detention hall. Students who do not have a parent signature will NOT be admitted and will not receive credit for serving. Failure to serve a detention will result in further disciplinary consequences. Detentions are held Monday – Friday from 2:30 – 3:15 PM. ON-CAMPUS SUSPENSION (OCS): On-campus suspension is held daily in one of our classrooms. Students are isolated from the rest of the campus and supervised by an adult staff member. This program provides complete isolation, including lunch from the other students at school. The student's time in OCS includes a 45-minute detention after school. Schoolwork is requested from their teachers and they work on their assignments throughout the day. If the students are in any way defiant or disruptive, they will be suspended off-campus.
SUSPENSION: The most severe form of disciplinary action is an off campus suspension. This can result from a Class I or Class II infraction (i.e. fighting, weapons, defiance, etc…). The period of Off-campus suspension can vary between one (1) and five (5) days depending on the severity of the incident. Students who receive a three (3) to five (5) day suspension may request homework. It is the responsibility of the family to pick up the submitted work. It is the responsibility of the student to complete that work and turn it in the day they return. Students who receive a suspension less than three (3) days need to speak with their individual teachers upon their return to find out what they missed. |
